Prague.bio Conference: Gathering of the Global Biotechnology Elite in Prague
Deborah Spencer, MBA
Prague, July 1, 2024 – The second annual Prague.bio Conference, a prestigious international event focused on biotechnology, will welcome top-tier professionals in the field, including prominent investors, experts from Silicon Valley and Oxford, among others. Prague.bio is a key event bridging science and business, where innovators can showcase their ideas and capture the attention of investors in the region of Central Europe.
Outstanding Speakers and Experts from Around the World
As in the previous year, the conference will feature leading figures in pharma, diagnostics, or technology transfer. Newly confirmed speakers include Deborah Spencer, MBA, innovation expert and industrial partnership manager from the UK, who will share her experiences from the University of Oxford and other prestigious institutions. Another notable speaker is Petr Jansa, co-founder of the US-based oncology start-up Pallando Therapeutics. Mr. Jansa will present the latest innovations driving the biotechnology sector in Silicon Valley. Christian A. Stein, CEO of Ascenion and one of Europe’s leading experts on technology transfer will provide insights into the establishment of spin-offs and the commercialization of scientific ideas.
A Unique Intersection of Science and Business
“Prague.bio Conference is an exceptional opportunity for promising technology start-ups. They get the chance to present their projects to investors managing vast resources to support projects in the region,” explains Petra Kinzlová, Director of Prague.bio Cluster, the organizer of the event. The conference will also host prominent IP experts, lawyers specializing in technology transfer, and representatives of VC funds. Among them are Sebastian Kreuz from Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, Nicolas Beuzen from i&i Biotech Fund, Agnes Oertli from LSA Ventures, and Roman Smola from Tensor Ventures.
Networking, Experience Exchange, and New Ideas
Besides lectures, the conference will feature panel discussions with investors and legal specialists, a segment highly rated in the last year. Participants will have the opportunity to meet experts personally and establish new contacts during an informal evening program. New to this year's event is "investor speed dating" – a series of short meetings between start-up representatives and investors.
A traditional highlight of the conference is the pitch session, featuring twelve technologies from drug development, biomaterials, and diagnostics from the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, and Poland. These twelve innovators will present their solutions for treating and diagnosing oncology, infectious diseases, and other health issues.
Participants of the Prague.bio Conference can also look forward to a poster session, which will feature a showcase of approximately twenty scientific projects and start-ups that are trying to translate innovative ideas from laboratories into practice. All visitors to the conference can then exchange experiences and contacts during the evening reception at its conclusion.
Support from the Czech Government and Prague City Council
The Prague.bio Conference has strong support from the Czech government and the Prague City Council and is under the patronage of the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, the Minister of Industry and Trade and the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague. The Prague.bio Conference will take place on September 24, 2024, at Slovanský dům in Prague.
